New Delhi: The X account of the viral satirical group “Cockroach Janta Party” (CJP) has been withheld in India, triggering fresh online debate around political satire and digital expression. The development was confirmed by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who posted that the account had been restricted in the country.

Soon after the suspension, the group launched a new X account titled “Cockroach is Back,” posting messages mocking the restriction and signalling its return to social media.

Controversy Linked to CJI Remarks

The satirical movement gained traction after controversy surrounding remarks attributed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during a court hearing earlier this month. Reports circulating online claimed the CJI compared some unemployed youth and social media users to “cockroaches” and “parasites” while discussing fake degrees and professional misconduct.

The remarks sparked backlash across social media platforms, especially among young users frustrated over unemployment and examination-related concerns.

However, Justice Surya Kant later clarified that his comments had been misrepresented. He stated that the observations were specifically directed at individuals using fake and bogus degrees to enter professions and not aimed at unemployed youth in general.

From Meme Trend to Online Political Satire

Despite the clarification, the controversy quickly transformed into a viral internet movement. The Cockroach Janta Party emerged as a satirical political platform combining humour, memes and political commentary.

Founded by former AAP social media worker Abhijeet Dipke, the digital-only outfit reportedly attracted tens of thousands of followers within days of its launch. Its slogan describes the group as a platform for “the lazy, the unemployed and the chronically correct.”

Manifesto Mixes Satire With Political Commentary

The group’s online manifesto blends comedy with commentary on governance and politics. Among its widely discussed demands are a ban on post-retirement Rajya Sabha positions for former chief justices, stricter anti-defection rules for lawmakers and increased political representation for women.

The withholding of the account has further amplified online discussions around free speech, satire and the growing influence of internet-driven political movements in India.
