Hyderabad Woman Confronts Fake Rapido Driver Near Charminar (Img: Instagram)
New Delhi: A Hyderabad woman’s alertness has sparked a discussion on passenger safety after she confronted a man who allegedly approached her near the iconic Charminar while claiming to be a Rapido driver without any confirmed booking.
The incident was shared online by content creator Siddeshwari Sugandh, who posted a video of the encounter and explained why she found the situation suspicious.
According to Siddeshwari, she was waiting for an auto near Charminar at around 9 PM when a man arrived on a scooter and offered to drop her at her destination.
The man reportedly introduced himself as a Rapido driver and asked her, “Aapko Rapido chahiye kya madam?” (Do you need a Rapido, ma’am?). However, the woman became cautious as she had not booked any ride through the Rapido app. She immediately asked him to show his driver ID and verify his identity.
Siddeshwari said she noticed that the scooter did not have a visible vehicle number plate, which increased her doubts.
When questioned, the man reportedly identified himself as Irfan but failed to provide any valid Rapido driver credentials. Instead, he started downloading the Rapido application on his phone. The woman questioned why he was offering a ride without any booking details or proper verification.
During the conversation, the man reportedly said that his scooter was not starting. Siddeshwari questioned how he could offer a ride if the vehicle itself was not functioning properly.
After repeatedly asking him for verification, she eventually asked him to leave. In the viral video, she can be heard saying, “Seedha nikal ab yahan se” (Leave from here now).
Sharing the incident online, Siddeshwari clarified that her post was not against Rapido. She said she regularly uses the platform and trusts its safety measures, but her concern was someone using the company’s name to gain a passenger’s confidence.
Rapido responded to her post and advised users to always check captain details, vehicle information and OTP verification through the official app before starting a ride.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of staying alert while accepting rides and avoiding vehicles that are not booked through official platforms.
