New Delhi: The biggest question when buying a new car is whether to buy a petrol car or a CNG car. Especially when the budget is less than ₹10 lakh, this decision becomes even more difficult. Both options have their advantages and limitations. While CNG cars offer longer distances at a lower cost, petrol cars offer better pickup and a smoother driving experience. Therefore, it is crucial to make a proper comparison before purchasing.

CNG's Advantage in Fuel Prices

First, regarding fuel prices, CNG is generally cheaper than petrol. In major cities like Delhi and Mumbai, the price of CNG is less than ₹80 per kg, which is a significant advantage for those who travel long distances daily. In smaller cities, the price can reach ₹85 to ₹100 per kg, but despite this, CNG still proves to be more economical than petrol overall and reduces costs in the long run.

CNG Cars Ahead in Mileage

CNG cars clearly perform better in terms of mileage. Petrol cars offer an average mileage of 15 to 22 kilometers per liter, while CNG cars can deliver 22 to 35 kilometers per kilogram. This is why many customers are preferring CNG variants these days. Demand for CNG cars and SUVs from companies like Maruti, Tata, and Hyundai has grown rapidly, and CNG SUV sales have also seen a significant jump recently.

Petrol Cars Strong in Performance

However, in exchange for better mileage, CNG cars offer slightly less power and torque. This difference can be felt during high speeds, overtaking, or highway driving. On the other hand, petrol cars are smoother and offer a better driving experience on the highway, making them a better choice for performance enthusiasts.

Which Car Is Right for Who?

If you travel longer distances in the city daily and want a car that runs efficiently, a CNG car may be a wise decision. However, those who prefer strong performance, high speeds, and long highway drives will find a petrol car more suitable. The right choice depends on your needs, budget and driving style.
