Chandigarh: A cashier working at a well-known medical store in Chandigarh was shot dead on Saturday afternoon in a shocking daylight attack inside a busy market in Sector 11. The incident has raised serious security concerns in one of the city’s most crowded commercial areas.

Attack in Broad Daylight

According to initial reports, the incident took place around 2:30 pm when the market was active with shoppers. Three men arrived on a motorcycle, while two of them entered the medical store. The third person reportedly stayed outside to assist their escape.

Inside the shop, the cashier identified as Janaki Dass, originally from Rohru in Himachal Pradesh, was carrying out routine work when the attackers entered.

CCTV Captures Brutal Shooting

CCTV footage from the shop shows two masked individuals entering the store before drawing firearms. One of them opened fire at close range. Reports suggest that around 13 rounds were fired inside the premises, and an automatic weapon may have been used.

The attackers fled immediately after the shooting, escaping on the same motorcycle they arrived on.

No Prior Threats Reported

Police officials stated that no threats had been reported by the shop owner prior to the incident. The sudden nature of the attack has left investigators exploring multiple angles, including the possibility of a targeted killing.

While only the cashier was attacked and others inside the store were left unharmed, officials say it is too early to confirm the motive behind the crime.

Investigation Underway

The area around Sector 11 is one of Chandigarh’s busiest markets and is located near the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), with heavy daily footfall.

Police have launched an investigation and are analysing CCTV footage and witness statements to identify the suspects. The motive and identities of the attackers remain unknown as of now, and further inquiries are ongoing.
