New Delhi: Toyota is preparing to make a major move in India’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle market with the launch of its first mass-market electric SUV, the Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV. The company is expected to introduce this all-electric SUV in the first half of 2026, marking Toyota’s serious push into affordable electric mobility for Indian consumers.

The Urban Cruiser BEV will not be an entirely new product from scratch. Instead, it will be a badge-engineered version of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, developed under the Toyota–Suzuki global partnership. Both SUVs will be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant and will be built on the new Heartect-e electric platform, designed specifically for EVs.

Futuristic and Bold Exterior Design

While the Urban Cruiser BEV will share its core structure with the e Vitara, Toyota will give it a distinct identity. The SUV is expected to feature sleek LED headlamps connected by a chrome strip, a closed-off front grille, and vertical air vents. Toyota’s signature hammerhead-style front design will add a futuristic appeal.

From the sides, the SUV will showcase strong body cladding and newly designed aero alloy wheels, giving it a sporty and rugged stance. At the rear, connected LED tail lamps will enhance its premium look. In terms of dimensions, the Urban Cruiser BEV is expected to be longer and wider, translating into better cabin space and road presence.

Premium and Tech-Loaded Interior

Inside, the Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV will focus on comfort, technology, and modern design. The cabin is likely to feature a dual-tone interior, a low-set dashboard, and a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Additional highlights may include a fully digital instrument cluster, a new multi-function steering wheel, ambient lighting, and high-quality materials. Comfort features such as ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and sliding rear seats are also expected, making it suitable for families and long-distance travel.

Battery Options, Range, and Safety

The Urban Cruiser BEV is expected to offer two battery options — 49 kWh and 61 kWh. With the larger battery, the SUV could deliver a range of around 500 to 550 km on a single charge, making it highly competitive in its segment.

In terms of technology and safety, features like a 360-degree camera, connected car tech, wireless charging, and a premium audio system are likely. Safety will be a strong focus, with expected features including seven airbags, Level-2 ADAS, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and electronic stability control.

Expected Price and Market Competition

The Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV is expected to be priced from around ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, it will directly compete with upcoming models like the Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti e Vitara, making the Indian EV SUV segment even more competitive.
