New Delhi: On Thursday Volkswagen India revealed the 2026 Taigun facelift a refreshed version of its popular midsize SUV. The updated model will be produced at Volkswagen’s Pune plant and continues to compete in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment. Nitin Kohli, Brand Director of Volkswagen India said,

“We aim to launch one product every quarter starting with the Tiguan R-Line in Q1, followed by the Taigun facelift in Q2 with more launches planned throughout the year.” Since its 2021 debut, the Taigun has been a strong performer for Volkswagen India, accounting for 90% of the 1 lakh SUVs sold by the brand in India since 2020.

Fresh Look, Familiar Shape

The Taigun facelift retains its overall shape but comes with noticeable design updates. At the front it now features LED headlamps connected by a light bar and an illuminated VW badge a slimmer grille, a redesigned bumper. The design takes inspiration from the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line. GT variants get sporty blacked out elements on the grille and alloy wheels with exterior trims along with GT badging.

The side profile remains largely unchanged except for new 17-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the SUV gets an illuminated logo, updated LED tail-lamps with sequential turn indicators, a rear light bar, and a revised bumper. The Taigun facelift comes in nine colours, including Avocado Pearl, Steel Grey, Lava Blue, Reflex Silver, Carbon Steel, Carbon Steel Matte, Deep Black Pearl, Candy White, and Cherry Red.

Inside the Cabin

The interior layout remains similar but now features new trims and a two-tone finish, along with six upholstery options.

Key tech and comfort upgrades include:

. 10.25-inch digital driver display
. 10.1-inch infotainment system with updated software, AI-based voice control, and connected features
. ‘Hello Volkswagen’ voice assistant for basic controls
. Panoramic sunroof
. Powered, ventilated front seats
. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
. Ambient lighting and wireless charging
. Smart touch climate control

The SUV also retains safety standards with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, traction control, electronic differential lock, hill-hold assist, ISOFIX mounts, front and rear parking sensors, and more. The 5-star safety rating remains unchanged.

Engine and Performance

The Taigun facelift continues with two turbo petrol engines:

1.0-litre TSI: 114–115 hp, 178 Nm, now with a new 8-speed automatic gearbox and improved fuel efficiency (+5.8%). Manual option remains.
1.5-litre TSI: 147–150 hp, 250 Nm, paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox and manual option. It now includes rear disc brakes.

The SUV comes with a 4-year/1,00,000 km warranty, four years of roadside assistance and three free labor services.

Competitors

The updated Taigun faces strong competition from:
Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Renault Duster, Tata Sierra and the Skoda Kushaq.
