CM Samrat Chaudhary wins vote of confidence
Bihar: The newly formed NDA government in Bihar, led by Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, has won a confidence vote in the State Assembly on Friday, 10 days after he took oath. The confidence vote marks his first major political challenge as Chief Minister in a 243-member House.
The confidence motion was put to vote in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, where the government secured the required majority, reaffirming its position in the House.
With this outcome, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary’s leadership has received a formal mandate from the Assembly, strengthening the ruling side’s claim of stability in the state government.
The floor test follows a major political reshuffle in Bihar, which saw Nitish Kumar resign after being elected to the Rajya Sabha, paving the way for a BJP-led government. This also marks the first time Bihar has a BJP Chief Minister.
Within the new cabinet setup, JD(U) leaders Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav have been appointed Deputy Chief Ministers. Party leaders maintain that the government continues to enjoy full support from Nitish Kumar and will secure a “comfortable majority” in today’s vote.
Attention is also focused on Nishant, who has opted not to take any immediate government position. Party sources say he will begin a statewide grassroots tour from May 3 as a party worker.
Speculation continues that he may be nominated to the Legislative Council in June, with a more significant organisational or political role expected in the future.
As the Assembly convenes, all eyes remain on the expected face-off between the ruling NDA and the opposition, though the numbers suggest a smooth passage for the new government.
