Patna: With the end of campaigning for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, preparations for voting have been completed in Saharsa district.

District Election Officer and District Magistrate Dipesh Kumar and Superintendent of Police Himanshu provided detailed information in a joint press conference in the Collectorate's meeting room.

The District Magistrate stated that voting will take place on Thursday, 6th November, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM in the district's four assembly constituencies: 74 Sonvarsha, 75 Saharsa, 76 Simri Bakhtiyarpur, and 77 Mahisi.

However, due to geographical conditions, voting will be conducted only until 5:00 pm in the Simri Bakhtiyarpur and Mahisi assembly constituencies. Counting of votes will take place on Friday,  14th November.

1.296 million voters will exercise

A total of 1.296 million voters will exercise their franchise in Saharsa. These include 6,79,117 male, 6,16,875 female, and 22 transgender voters. A total of 1,566 polling stations have been set up for voting.

Six candidates are contesting in the Sonwarsha Assembly constituency, where 3,01,868 voters will cast their votes at 358 polling stations. Ten candidates are contesting in the Saharsa Assembly constituency, where 3,69,912 voters will cast their votes at 437 polling stations. Fifteen candidates are contesting in the Simri Bakhtiyarpur Assembly constituency, where 3,36,625 voters will cast their votes at 410 polling stations.

This area has 69 polling stations at 35 locations within the Eastern Kosi embankment, where voting will be held only until 5 p.m. due to geographical conditions. Fourteen candidates are contesting in the Mahisi Assembly constituency, where 2,87,669 voters will cast their votes at 361 polling stations. The Mahisi region also has 46 polling stations within the Eastern Kosi embankment, located in a difficult geographical area, and voting will also take place until 5 p.m.

GPS-enabled boats and tractors

GPS-enabled boats and tractors have been arranged for the movement of polling personnel and materials in both embankment areas. The District Magistrate (DM) stated that Ramesh Jha Women's College has been selected as the EVM dispatch, collection, and counting center for the Sonvarsha and Mahisi assembly constituencies. The departmental investigation officer for Sonvarsha will be Additional Collector Ganesh Kumar, and the departmental officer for Mahisi will be Additional Collector Mrityunjay Kumar. The counting center for the Saharsa assembly constituency will be located at the Saharsa District School, headed by Additional Collector Sanjeev Chaudhary. The counting center for Simri Bakhtiyarpur has been set up at the Government Girls High School, Saharsa, headed by Deputy Development Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Nirala.

The DM stated that a case of violation of the Model Code of Conduct has been registered against the election agent of the Jan Suraj Party. In Saharsa district, 3,092 polling personnel cast their votes via postal ballot. As part of the election campaign, Rs 4,039,490 in cash and 11,153,525 liters of illicit liquor, valued at approximately Rs 36,72,000, have been seized.

Police said

Superintendent of Police Himanshu stated that 53 companies of the CAPF, 2 companies of the BSAP, 1,500 police officers and officers, and 2,400 Home Guard personnel have been deployed to ensure peaceful and fair voting. Polling personnel have been provided with GPS-enabled boats and tractors to reach the 105 polling stations located within the Kosi embankment. Fifteen cluster points have been established at these polling stations, equipped with generators and lighting. Radium light strips have been installed to easily identify boats at night. Furthermore, 8 SDRF teams have been deployed to assist polling personnel in inaccessible areas. Webcasting has been arranged at all polling stations.

This time, 12 model polling stations, 11 youth centers, 15 women centers, and 4 PWD centers have been set up in the district. 6,932 polling officers and 177 micro observers will be deployed in the district. Separate toilets for men and women, clean drinking water, electricity, and ramps have been provided at all polling stations. 794 wheelchairs and volunteer assistance have been provided for disabled voters. The District Magistrate stated that disabled voters registered through the Saksham app will also be provided with vehicle access on polling day, so they can easily reach the polling station.
