Mumbai: Indian stock markets witnessed a strong rally on Friday, with benchmark indices extending their gains for the seventh consecutive trading session. This marked the longest winning streak in three years, as heavy buying in banking and financial stocks, along with positive corporate earnings, boosted investor confidence.

The BSE Sensex surged 1,718.01 points, or 2.17 per cent, to finish at 81,028.02. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty climbed 493.75 points, gaining 2.01 per cent to close at 25,030.35.

Nifty Reclaims 25,000 Level

The latest rally pushed the Nifty above the significant 25,000 mark for the first time since February 27, 2026. It also recorded its highest closing level in nine months, reflecting the improving mood across the domestic equity market.

According to market analysts, the index is approaching an important resistance range between 25,150 and 25,200. A sustained move beyond this zone could strengthen the upward momentum and create room for further gains.

On the downside, the 24,800 level is expected to act as immediate support. Analysts believe holding above this mark will be important for the market to maintain its current positive trend. A break below it could encourage investors to book profits.

Banking Stocks Lead Market Gains

Banking and financial services stocks played a major role in Friday's advance. Mahindra & Mahindra, ICICI Bank and HDFC Life Insurance Company were among the leading gainers on the Nifty.

Market experts linked the buying interest to a shift in global investment preferences, as investors gradually moved away from artificial intelligence-related trades towards other sectors.

The improving outlook surrounding corporate earnings and reduced concerns over the West Asia conflict also contributed to the broader market recovery.

Midcap and Smallcap Stocks Lag

Despite the strong performance of benchmark indices, the broader market remained under pressure. The Nifty MidCap 100 slipped 0.02 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap 100 declined 0.82 per cent.

Among sectoral indices, Nifty Private Bank emerged as the strongest performer, supported by buying in financial stocks. In contrast, the Nifty Media index finished as the weakest sector of the session.
