New Delhi: Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal has resigned as the group CEO of Eternal Ltd, handing over the reins to Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa with immediate effect. In a letter to shareholders, Goyal explained that his decision was driven by a growing interest in exploring new ideas involving significantly higher levels of risk- ventures he believes are better pursued outside a public company.

“Of late, I have found myself drawn to a set of new ideas that involve significantly higher-risk exploration and experimentation. These are the kinds of ideas that are better pursued outside a public company like Eternal,” Goyal wrote.

He added that while he would have pursued such ideas within Eternal if they aligned with the company’s strategy, these opportunities fall outside its current scope.

Focus and Discipline Remain Key for Eternal

Goyal emphasised the importance of maintaining Eternal’s focus and discipline in its existing business lines. “Eternal deserves to remain focused, and disciplined, while exploring new areas of growth that are relevant to its current line of business,” he said.

He also noted that the expectations and legal obligations of a public company CEO in India require singular focus, and this transition allows him to explore high-risk ventures while ensuring Eternal remains sharply focused on its strategic priorities.

Commitment to Eternal and Leadership Transition

Despite stepping down as CEO, Goyal reaffirmed his long-term commitment to Eternal, a company he has spent 18 years building. He highlighted that his partnership with Albinder Dhindsa and Zomato CFO Akshant Goyal remains unchanged, and all business CEOs will continue to retain the autonomy they have always had.

The operational centre of gravity will now shift to Dhindsa, who will oversee day-to-day execution, operating priorities, and key business decisions across the group. Goyal praised Dhindsa’s leadership at Blinkit, crediting him with steering the quick-commerce platform from acquisition to breakeven. He called Blinkit Eternal’s largest growth opportunity and expressed confidence in Dhindsa’s execution capabilities and founder-led mindset.

“Blinkit remains our largest growth opportunity and will remain Albi’s top priority. Our decentralised structure, where each business has a CEO with full ownership, continues unchanged and will help Albi execute this well,” Goyal added.
