New Delhi: This time, the Income Tax Department has made several changes to all the ITR forms. The date has been extended from July 31 to September 15. Many individuals have submitted their ITR and are currently awaiting their refund. People are now asking when the refund will be processed.
You can check the refund status by visiting the income tax website. The Income Tax Department has given taxpayers the ability to track ITR refunds via its official e-filing portal. The Income Tax Department has provided two methods for tracking the refund.
The department states that the most recent information can typically be found on the e-filing portal itself.
Step 1: Visit officil website incometax.gov.in.
Step 2: Enter your PAN, password, and captcha code and click on Login.
Step 3: Go to 'e-File' > 'Income Tax Returns' > 'View Filed Returns'.
Step 4: Select Assessment Year 2025-26.
Step 5: Then click on ‘View Details’ to view ITR status.
Step 6: Check the 'Refund Status' section to see if the refund has been issued, and determine if the process is ongoing or failed due to incorrect bank details.
In many cases, refunds are delayed or fail due to bank account verification issues, Business Standard reported. CBDT advises taxpayers to ensure that the bank account given for availing refund should be pre-validated, linked to PAN and activated for ECS (Electronic Clearing Service).
If the refund has been processed but not received in the account, then you can go to the portal and put 'Refund Reissue Request'.
The amount of income tax refund is usually transferred within 4 to 5 weeks of e-verification. It is important that you pre-validate your bank account with a unique identifier like PAN card, so that financial transactions are completely safe. The department sends emails and SMS in case the refund is credited or delayed due to any technical reason. So keep your contact details updated in the e-filing profile.
