Shillong: The murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi had shocked the whole country. Just a few days after marriage, his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and her lover, Raj Kushwaha, conspired to kill Raja. Now in this high-profile case, Meghalaya Police has completed its investigation and filed a 790-page chargesheet in the court.
Police investigation revealed that Sonam was already close to Raj Kushwaha. Even before marriage, both of them had planned to eliminate Raja. For this, they hired three contract killers—Akash Rajput, Vishal Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi—for about Rs 20 lakh.
The plan was to kill Raja during their honeymoon and make it look like a robbery.
On May 20, Sonam and Raja reached Meghalaya for their honeymoon. On May 23, while trekking near Visawadong waterfall, the contract killers attacked Raja in the presence of Sonam. Raja was first hit twice on the head with a machete. After this, his body was thrown into a deep ditch.

Sonam called her mother on the spot and then switched off the phones of both. On June 2, Raja's decomposed body was recovered from a ditch near the waterfall. The case changed from a 'missing couple' case to a sensational murder.
Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case: Meghalaya police say committed to deliver justice
Sonam went into hiding after the murder but surrendered in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 8. When the police interrogated her strictly, she confessed to the crime and told how she and Raj planned the entire murder together. The police arrested Sonam, Raj, and the three contract killers. All are currently in judicial custody.
All five accused have been charged with murder (Section 103(1) BNS), destruction of evidence (Section 238(a) BNS) and conspiracy (Section 61(2) BNS).
In addition, a supplementary chargesheet will be filed against three more co-accused—property dealer Silomi James, landlord Lokendra Tomar, and security guard Balbir Ahirwar—after additional forensic reports are received.
This case is not only a story of family betrayal and greed, but it also shows how a horrific crime was committed under the guise of personal relationships. The police investigation is complete and the case will now go to court. The upcoming trial will decide how much punishment the culprits of this Honeymoon Murder Case get.
