Nagpur: A rent dispute in Nagpur has led to a startling discovery, with police uncovering suspected counterfeit currency worth Rs 85 lakh from a rented room. The landlord reportedly went to check the premises after the tenant allegedly failed to pay rent for months, only to find bundles of suspected fake notes and equipment believed to have been used for printing them.

A Rent Dispute Leads to a Shocking Discovery

The case came to light after the landlord, identified in reports as Ramesh Harde, reportedly grew concerned over unpaid rent and the tenant’s continued absence. The rental agreement had allegedly expired in January, and the landlord wanted the occupant to vacate the premises.

When the tenant could not be contacted, the landlord reportedly entered the locked room and discovered bundles of currency notes. The discovery prompted further examination and police intervention.

According to reports, the suspected counterfeit notes included Rs 500 denominations. The total estimated face value of the recovered and partially printed notes was reported to be around Rs 85 lakh.

Printer, Laptop and Currency Notes Recovered

Police reportedly recovered suspected fake currency along with a printer, a laptop, A4 sheets and other materials from the premises. A currency-counting machine was also reportedly used during the process of examining the notes.

The quantity and valuation of the seized material are subject to confirmation through the official seizure record. Investigators are expected to establish how many notes were fully printed, how many were incomplete and whether any had been circulated.

The tenant’s identity has been reported differently in some accounts, and it remains important to rely on the police’s official confirmation. The circumstances surrounding the alleged printing operation are also under investigation.

Police Search for the Missing Tenant

The tenant was reportedly suspected to be in Mumbai, prompting efforts to trace his whereabouts. Investigators are looking into the source of the printing equipment, the intended use of the notes and whether anyone else was involved.

Reports have also indicated that Maharashtra’s Anti-Terrorism Squad and intelligence agencies were examining aspects of the case. However, the nature and extent of any wider network have not been established publicly.

The investigation will need to determine whether the recovered material was intended for circulation, whether any counterfeit notes had already entered the market and if the operation involved additional locations or associates.

What began as a dispute over unpaid rent has now become a suspected counterfeit-currency case. The discovery of notes allegedly worth Rs 85 lakh has raised serious questions, but the tenant’s role and the full scale of the operation will depend on evidence gathered by investigators.
