Big Blow For Delhi Capitals! Abishek Porel Arrested In Rape And Criminal Intimidation Case

New Delhi: Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel has been arrested by Bengal Police in connection with a rape case filed by a medical student, according to officials quoted by PTI.

The 23-year-old cricketer was taken into custody from Hooghly, West Bengal, after questioning and was later formally arrested. Following the arrest, Porel underwent a medical examination and was produced before the Chinsurah Court. The allegations against the cricketer have not been proven in court, and the matter remains under investigation.

Medical Student Filed Complaint Against Porel

The case was registered at Mogra Police Station after a complaint by a woman who alleged that Porel established a physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage.

The complaint also includes allegations of criminal intimidation and claims that private moments were recorded. Police are investigating all aspects of the case.

The accused cricketer has earlier denied the allegations and said he would respond in detail after the completion of the police inquiry.

Arrest Follows Calcutta High Court Order

Porel’s arrest came weeks after the Calcutta High Court directed Bengal Police to take action in the matter. In an order dated July 14, Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya asked police to continue efforts to apprehend Porel and another accused person. The court also ordered the seizure of electronic devices linked to the case to prevent any possible misuse of alleged private material.

Police informed the court that a pen drive had already been seized and sent for forensic examination.

Complainant Alleged Police Inaction Earlier

The complainant had approached the High Court, alleging a lack of action by the police. She also claimed that she was threatened with the release of private photographs, allegations that are currently part of the investigation.

According to the complaint, the woman came in contact with Porel in 2023, following which their relationship allegedly developed and marriage discussions took place between their families.

She has also alleged an incident in Delhi in April 2026 involving assault and confinement. These claims remain allegations and will be examined during the legal process.

Cricket Career Under Cloud

Abishek Porel has been a rising name in Bengal cricket and has represented Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter made his first-class debut for Bengal during the 2021-22 season and later earned India A opportunities. He joined the Delhi Capitals squad in 2023 and became part of the franchise’s IPL setup.
