New Delhi: Indian equity markets ended lower on Tuesday as investors remained cautious amid global uncertainties, rising crude oil prices and concerns over geopolitical developments.
The benchmark indices witnessed selling pressure after a flat session, with market sentiment impacted by worries surrounding disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and developments related to US-Iran negotiations.
At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex declined 388.19 points or 0.49% to settle at 78,154.25.
The Nifty 50 also slipped 112.10 points or 0.46% to close at 24,471.70.
Investors remained cautious as higher crude prices raised concerns over inflation and the possibility of pressure on global markets.
Market experts said the rebound in crude prices shifted investor focus back towards inflation risks.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments Limited, said concerns over crude price movements, Strait of Hormuz disruptions and US-Iran talks kept market sentiment cautious.
He added that strong foreign inflows and positive corporate earnings are helping limit downside risks despite the pressure from global factors.
Market participants are now closely watching upcoming inflation data from India and the United States, which could influence future market direction.
With global uncertainty continuing, crude oil prices and geopolitical developments are expected to remain key factors for Dalal Street in the coming sessions.
