Delhi Court extends custody of BMW driver
New Delhi: Patiala House Court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody until September 27th of the woman driver who was driving a BMW car that caused the death of a senior Finance Ministry official and the injury of his wife in an accident at Dhaula Kuan on Sunday. The bail plea of the woman, Gaganpreet Kaur (38), will be heard on Saturday.
Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta explained that the Delhi Police is now turning a simple accident case into a murder case. He said, "The FIR was filed 10 hours after my arrest. The police are compounding the case by adding Section 304 (murder charges) because the injured were taken to a distant hospital."

Gupta told the court that the deceased official and his wife have two children, aged 5 and 7, who were injured in the accident. Both families are deeply hurt and, given the sensitivity of the matter, are demanding appropriate justice.

His wife was also injured when the BMW hit their bike. Police said Gaganpreet took them to GTB Nagar Hospital, about 17 kilometers from the accident site.
Ramesh Gupta said the car also collided with a bus and the police could have seized the bus as well. He claimed an ambulance arrived at the scene but refused to take the injured to the hospital. He demanded that the DCP investigate the matter.

The police told the court that the hospital where the injured were taken belongs to a relative of the accused. The injured woman filed an FIR, stating that she had asked Gaganpreet to take her to the nearest hospital, but she insisted on another. The taxi driver's statement has also been recorded by the police.
The lawyer had applied to preserve the CCTV footage of the accident, on which the court issued a notice and scheduled the hearing for the next date.
