Hyderabad: Police are investigating the death of a former software engineer in Hyderabad after her body was recovered from a pond and a temple idol she allegedly carried with her could not be found.

The woman, identified as Tejaswini, was reportedly seen entering a nearby temple and taking an idol of Goddess Ammavaru before proceeding towards the pond. Police suspect that she died by suicide, although investigators have said that several aspects of the incident remain unclear and that all possible angles are being examined.

Search launched for missing idol

Disaster response personnel have deployed boats and search teams to locate the missing idol. Investigators believe its recovery may help them reconstruct the sequence of events immediately preceding Tejaswini’s death.

While her body was recovered from the water, the idol remained untraceable at the time of reporting.

Police examine note and family statements

As part of the investigation, police have questioned Tejaswini’s mother and are examining a note reportedly left by her. Her phone activity, financial transactions, CCTV footage and movements during the days before her death are also being analysed.

Authorities are trying to establish a clear timeline and determine whether any personal, financial or other circumstances contributed to the incident.

Rented accommodation under scrutiny

Investigators are also examining the property where Tejaswini had been staying. Reports said she was paying approximately Rs 3,500 per day for a rented flat, amounting to nearly Rs 1 lakh a month.

The upper floors of the building were allegedly being operated like a lodge. Police are checking whether the property, its management or any of its occupants had a connection with the events under investigation.

No final conclusion regarding the circumstances or motive has been announced. The inquiry remains underway, with police relying on forensic evidence, witness statements and electronic records.
