New Delhi: Tumakuru police on Thursday arrested a 56-year-old man from Delhi for allegedly manufacturing and selling counterfeit Ayurvedic and weight loss products through e-commerce platforms using duplicate branding.
The accused, identified as Rajeev Khanna, had reportedly been running the illegal operation for nearly one and a half years. His sons, Himanshu and Manan Khanna, have also been named in the case for allegedly assisting him, but they are currently absconding.
The case came to light after Dhanalakshmi, owner of Jeeni Company based in Yaragunte village in Tumakuru district, filed a complaint at Kallambella Police Station on August 14, 2025. She alleged that a Delhi-based firm, R K Traders, was misusing her company’s trademark to sell counterfeit products online. She also raised concerns about potential health risks posed by these fake products, especially to children.
Following the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
During the investigation, authorities traced the operation to a warehouse in Punjabi Mohalla in the Shalimar Bagh area of New Delhi. On March 27, police conducted a raid at the location and seized counterfeit Jeeni Company products, duplicate Ayurvedic tablets, beauty creams, and commonly used Ayurvedic powders.
According to Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Ashok K V, the accused was operating under the names R K Traders, M K Traders, and MHK Traders, selling fake products online without proper safety measures or regulatory approvals.
The case has also been reported to the Drug Controller in Delhi and local Shalimar Bagh police.
Police stated that Rajeev Khanna, along with his sons and others, was engaged in manufacturing and selling counterfeit goods for financial gain. Authorities estimate that he cheated Jeeni Company of over ₹15 lakh and caused losses amounting to crores of rupees to other businesses.
Khanna was taken into custody in Delhi on March 28 and brought to Kallambella Police Station, where he was formally arrested. He was later produced before a court in Sira and remanded to police custody for further investigation.
During interrogation, Khanna allegedly admitted to filling containers with wheat flour and selling them as “Jeeni Slim Powder” using fake labels and packaging. He also confessed to marketing wheat flour as genuine Ayurvedic tablets and powders.
