New Delhi: A shocking crime case has emerged from South Delhi where a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by three men who reportedly posed as policemen near the Kalkaji Mandir area. In a major development, Delhi Police arrested one accused after an encounter in Amar Colony, while efforts are underway to trace the two other suspects.
The incident has triggered concern over public safety after the accused allegedly misused the identity of law enforcement officials to target the teenager. The case has brought attention to security concerns in public spaces and the need for strict action in crimes involving minors.
Delhi Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigation teams are collecting evidence, examining CCTV footage and verifying the complete sequence of events.
According to police officials, the incident took place on Monday evening at Astha Kunj Park, located between Kalkaji Mandir and ISKCON Temple in Southeast Delhi. The 17-year-old girl had reportedly visited Kalkaji Mandir with her 17-year-old male friend around 7 pm to offer prayers. After visiting the temple, the two reached Astha Kunj Park around 7:30 pm.
Police said three men allegedly approached them and claimed to be police personnel. The accused allegedly threatened the teenager and her friend before taking them towards a secluded area inside the park. According to the complaint, the men allegedly sexually assaulted the girl and later threatened both victims.
Police received information about the alleged crime through a PCR call around 8:45 pm. Following the alert, officers from Amar Colony Police Station reached Astha Kunj Park and initiated the investigation. The teenager was taken for medical examination, while forensic teams inspected the location and collected evidence.
Police also recorded the victim’s statement and started efforts to identify the accused through CCTV footage, technical surveillance and witness inputs.
After registering the FIR, Delhi Police formed multiple teams to identify and arrest the accused. Investigators scanned CCTV footage from Astha Kunj Park and nearby areas to track the movement of the suspects.
Police also questioned people present near the location and gathered information to establish the chain of events. The investigation is focused on identifying all accused persons, verifying their involvement and collecting evidence required for further legal proceedings.
During the investigation, police received information about one accused, identified as Asif, who was reportedly moving near DM Office Road in Amar Colony. According to police officials, when the team attempted to intercept him, the accused allegedly opened fire. Officials said he fired three rounds at the police personnel.
During the exchange of fire, one bullet reportedly hit the bulletproof jacket of Head Constable Rajesh. Police said the officer fired in self-defence, following which Asif sustained a gunshot injury to his right leg. The accused was subsequently taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre for medical treatment. Crime and forensic teams examined the encounter location and collected evidence as part of the legal process.
Delhi Police teams are continuing searches for the remaining two accused allegedly involved in the case. Multiple teams have been deployed to trace their locations and conduct further investigation.
Police are examining technical evidence, witness statements and other material collected during the probe. Officials said further action will be taken based on investigation findings, medical reports, forensic evidence and other legal procedures.
The alleged use of fake police identity by the accused has emerged as a key aspect of the investigation. The case has highlighted concerns over criminals exploiting public trust in law enforcement symbols and targeting vulnerable individuals in isolated areas.
Authorities are now examining security arrangements around public places and gathering points to understand whether additional preventive measures are required. The investigation into the alleged crime remains ongoing, with police teams working to arrest all accused persons and complete the legal process.
