Hazaribagh: Four Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand on Friday, officials confirmed. The gunfight took place in the Batuka forest area under the Keredari police station limits.
Police said the operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoist cadres in the region.
According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Pawan Kumar, four Maoists were neutralised during the exchange of fire. He added that the identities of those killed are yet to be established.

Officials also confirmed that no security personnel were injured in the operation. Further details are expected once the search and combing exercise in the area is completed.
In a related development earlier this week, four security personnel were injured during a separate encounter with Maoists in West Singhbhum district.
The gunfight occurred in the Saranda forest area under Chotanagra police station limits, involving a Maoist squad reportedly led by Misir Besra, a senior leader carrying a bounty of ₹1 crore.
Officials said the injured personnel belong to the elite CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) unit of the CRPF, which specialises in jungle warfare operations against Maoist insurgents.
Superintendent of Police Amit Renu stated that all injured personnel are out of danger and are receiving medical care. The operation in the region was ongoing intermittently at the time of the report.
Senior police officials said the operations were part of a broader effort to curb Maoist activities in Jharkhand. Inspector General of Police (Operations) Michael Raj S noted that security forces had received credible intelligence about the presence of Maoist leaders and cadres in the Saranda forest.

Security forces, including CRPF, CoBRA, and Jharkhand Jaguar units, have been conducting sustained operations in the region to dismantle Maoist networks and restore normalcy.
Authorities have intensified combing operations across forested areas of the state, aiming to eliminate insurgent presence. The recent encounters highlight ongoing efforts by security forces to counter Left-wing extremism in Jharkhand.
Further updates on both operations are expected as security personnel continue search operations and verify details on the ground.
