Gold worth over ₹4.26 Crore seized at Ahmedabad Airport from IndiGo flight

Ahmedabad: Customs officials at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad seized gold worth over ₹4.26 crore that was allegedly smuggled into India on an IndiGo flight arriving from Dubai on Friday.

Gold Hidden Inside Aircraft Speaker Box

Acting on specific inputs, Customs officers conducted a detailed inspection of IndiGo Flight 6E-1478 with assistance from aircraft engineers. During the search, they discovered two plastic-wrapped pouches concealed inside a speaker box located in the aircraft’s front lavatory.

Recovery of 24 Gold Biscuits

Upon examination, officials recovered 24 foreign-origin gold biscuits of 999 purity (24 carat), weighing a total of 2,799.3 grams. The seized gold is valued at approximately ₹4.27 crore in the local market, officials said.

Investigation Under Customs Act

According to Customs officials, the method of concealment suggests the gold was hidden by unidentified persons with the intent to smuggle it into India, in violation of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is underway to identify those responsible.
