Gurugram: A court in Gurugram on Wednesday remanded Kalyan Bainsla, accused of hitting a woman biker on Golf Course Road to police custody for two days. Bainsla’s cousin Lavneesh was also sent to police custody. Both accused were produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class Nidhi Beniwal and are scheduled to appear before the court again on September 18, 2026.
The two men were arrested in Rajasthan and brought to Gurugram on Tuesday as police intensified their investigation into the incident.
The case came to light after Shivani Chauhan, who uses the name Sia on social media, shared a video showing a car allegedly moving towards her motorcycle before hitting it on Golf Course Road. The footage recorded by a camera mounted on her bike, showed Chauhan falling after the collision. She alleged that the driver had harassed her before the incident and fled the spot following the crash.
The video subsequently gained widespread attention on social media, prompting police to register a suo motu case.
The case was initially registered at Sector 55/56 Police Station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to rash driving and acts endangering life or personal safety. Police later added Section 109 of the BNS, relating to attempt to murder.
In its latest application before the magistrate, police also invoked provisions relating to stalking and words, gestures or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman. The investigation is now focused on establishing the circumstances leading up to the collision and the events that followed it.
Bainsla has been identified as a gym owner and is referred to as Kalyan Singh in court records, according to the case details. Police arrested Bainsla and Lavneesh in Rajasthan before bringing them to Gurugram for further investigation. Their two-day police custody is expected to allow investigators to question them about the incident, their movements and the allegations made by the victim.
The bike-camera footage triggered widespread reactions on social media, with users calling for strict action against the accused driver. The incident quickly developed into a major talking point beyond Gurugram, putting the police investigation and handling of the case under intense public scrutiny.
With the accused now in police custody, investigators are expected to examine the available video evidence, statements and other material connected to the case.
