New Delhi: A woman journalist working with a news channel was allegedly chased and harassed by two men on a scooter from her office in Noida to the DND Flyway on Thursday night. The incident, which has raised serious safety concerns for women commuters, prompted swift police action, with one suspect detained on Friday morning.

Chased from Noida to Delhi

According to the complaint, the journalist, a resident of Vasant Kunj in South Delhi, was driving home after work when two men on a scooter allegedly began following her. They reportedly gestured for her to stop, but when she ignored them and continued driving, the men threw a heavy object at her car, shattering the rear windshield.

Despite the attack, the woman kept driving until she spotted a group of cab drivers in southeast Delhi. Seeking safety, she stopped her car near them and immediately called the police. Officers arrived at the scene and recorded her statement.

Police Register Case, Examine CCTV Footage

Following her complaint, police registered a case under sections related to stalking and other offences. Officials also reviewed CCTV footage along the route, confirming that the incident began in Noida before the woman crossed into Delhi.

An officer said, “One of the two men was apprehended from his residence on Friday morning and is currently being interrogated. Efforts are on to trace the second individual.”

Accused Claim Accident Triggered the Chase

During questioning, the apprehended suspect reportedly claimed that they followed the journalist because her car had allegedly hit their scooter. Police said the version is being verified through CCTV evidence and witness statements.

“The matter is under investigation. We are verifying all claims to establish the exact sequence of events,” a senior officer said.

Safety Concerns Reignited

The incident has once again highlighted the persistent safety challenges faced by women commuters in the Delhi-NCR region, especially during late hours. Police said patrolling has been intensified in vulnerable areas connecting Noida, DND Flyway, and South Delhi, as the investigation continues.
