Manisha went missing after returning from her school on August 11 when she went to inquire about admission to a nursing college. Two days later, on August 13, her body was found in a field. This brutal incident shocked people across the state, and the general public, family members, and locals started strong protests demanding speedy justice.

However, the whole matter took a worrying and dangerous turn when a well-known gangster, Lawrence Bishnoi's gang, issued a threatening statement on social media.
