4 officers suspended immediately on CM Yogi's orders (Source: X)
Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a stern stand after the massive fire incident in Aliganj area, ordering the immediate suspension of four officials and directing a high-level probe into the tragedy.
The action came after the Chief Minister personally monitored the relief and rescue operations and later visited Lucknow to review the situation on the ground. Four people have also been arrested in connection with the incident.
The officials suspended with immediate effect include Gaurav Kumar, XEN-Collection, Electricity Department, Janakpuram; Kamlendra Kumar Singh, In-charge Fire Station/FSSO, Indira Nagar; Anil Kumar, Assistant Engineer, Lucknow Development Authority; and Pramod Pandey, Junior Engineer, Lucknow Development Authority.
The government’s move is being seen as a major step towards fixing accountability in the case.
After visiting King George’s Medical University, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a high-level meeting at his official residence at 5, Kalidas Marg. Senior officials of the state government attended the meeting.
During the review, the Chief Minister directed the formation of a two-member Special Investigation Team to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident. The SIT will be led by Amrit Abhijat, Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Religious Affairs and Culture Department, and Praveen Kumar, Additional Director General of Police, Lucknow Zone.
Police have so far arrested four accused in the case. They have been identified as Ramkrishna Upadhyay, a resident of Aliganj; Virendra Prasad Shukla, a resident of Bada Durga Mandir, Sitapur Road; Tushak Krishna Jaiswal, a resident of Balaganj; and Suresh Kumar Sahu, a resident of Madiaon.
At the time of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was in Aligarh, where he was addressing a programme. After receiving information about the fire, he cancelled his scheduled engagements and left for Lucknow.
Before reaching the capital, he had already instructed Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and other senior officials to rush to the spot and ensure speedy relief and rescue work.
On reaching Lucknow, the Chief Minister first inspected the accident site and reviewed the rescue operations. He then visited King George’s Medical University to meet the injured and directed doctors to provide them the best possible treatment.
Expressing grief over the loss of lives, the Chief Minister announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 each for the injured.
