Police seized 1,189 kg of explosive materials from a warehouse near Chinnalapatti in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district after receiving information about their alleged illegal storage for fireworks manufacture.

Chennai: Police in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district seized 1,189 kg of explosive materials from a warehouse near Chinnalapatti following information that the premises were allegedly being used to store the materials without permission.

District Superintendent of Police Jayakumar received information about the warehouse and directed the Chinnalapatti Police team to conduct a raid. During the operation, officers recovered a large quantity of materials allegedly intended for the illegal manufacture of fireworks.

Police Launch Search For Two Suspects

The seized material included 1,048 kg of paper-wrapped fireworks, 100 kg of Magic Sand, 5 kg of white chemical powder, 34 kg of fuse material and 2 kg of gunpowder.

Police have registered a case in connection with the seizure and launched a search for two people identified as Vijayakumar and Savarimuthu.

Following the recovery, SP Jayakumar personally inspected the warehouse and conducted an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the storage of the explosive materials.

The seizure comes as police investigate whether the warehouse was being used for unauthorised storage and the illegal manufacture of fireworks.
