Security forces in Odisha have achieved a major success in their anti-Naxal operation. In an encounter in Kandhamal district, Naxal commander Ganesh Uike, who carried a reward of over one crore rupees, was killed. Three other Maoists were also killed in the operation. Ganesh Uike was a member of the Central Committee of the CPI (Maoist) and had been active in several states for a long time.

Bhubaneswar: Security forces have achieved a major breakthrough in their ongoing campaign against Naxalism in Odisha. Top Naxal commander Ganesh Uike was killed in an encounter in the forests of Chakapad police station area in Kandhamal district. According to the police, the encounter took place on Thursday when security forces launched a joint operation based on intelligence information.

The slain Naxalite, Ganesh Uike, was a member of the Central Committee of the CPI (Maoist). The government had announced a reward of Rs 1.1 crore on his head. He was considered a prominent figure of the banned Maoist organization in Odisha and had been on the security forces' hit list for a long time.
Besides Ganesh Uike, three other Maoists were also killed in the encounter, including two women. Their identities have not yet been confirmed. Police say that a search operation is still underway in the area to confirm the presence of any other Naxalites.
According to police officials, the Special Intelligence Wing received concrete information about the presence of Maoists. Following this, security forces launched a search operation in the forests. As soon as the Naxalites saw the security forces, they opened fire. In the retaliatory fire, all four Maoists were killed.
The 69-year-old Ganesh Uike was a resident of Nalgonda district in Telangana. He was known by several names such as Pakka Hanumantu, Rajesh Tiwari, Chamru, and Roopa. Within the organization, he played a crucial role in strategic planning and operations.

Ganesh Uike had been active in Odisha for a long time and was given responsibility for the state. He was also involved in Naxalite activities in Chhattisgarh. It is reported that he was in charge of the South Sub-Zonal Committee and was wanted in approximately seven states.
This operation has been described as a major success in the direction of a Naxal-free India. The Home Ministry posted on social media that several Naxalites, including a member of the Central Committee, were killed in this operation in Kandhamal. The government reiterated its resolve to completely eliminate Naxalism from the country by March 31, 2026.
