New Delhi: The Bar Council of India (BCI) on Friday suspended the licence of advocate Samarth Singh, husband of Twisha Sharma, in connection with the ongoing investigation into her death. The decision comes amid allegations of dowry harassment, cruelty and other related offences registered against him.

In an official statement, the BCI said the accusations against Samarth Singh were serious in nature and had impacted the dignity and image of the legal profession. The council also noted that the accused had allegedly not cooperated with investigators despite an FIR being filed against him.

BCI Cites Serious Allegations

BCI chairman Manan Kumar Mishra announced that Samarth Singh had been suspended from practising law with immediate effect pending further review of the matter.

The council’s action followed Samarth Singh being taken into custody from the premises of the Jabalpur district court on Friday. According to reports, he had arrived there intending to surrender after informing the Madhya Pradesh High Court through his counsel that he wished to withdraw his anticipatory bail plea.

Samarth Singh, who has been missing since May 12- the day Twisha Sharma died is expected to be handed over to the Bhopal Police for further investigation.

High Court Orders Fresh Autopsy

In another significant development, the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered a second autopsy of Twisha Sharma after her family raised concerns regarding the initial post-mortem examination.

The fresh autopsy will be conducted in Bhopal by a medical team from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. The court directed that a special flight be arranged to transport the doctors for the procedure. AIIMS Delhi has stated that it is awaiting the detailed court order before constituting the medical panel.

Family Demands Fair Investigation

Twisha Sharma’s family welcomed the High Court’s decision, calling it a crucial step towards ensuring justice.

Her brother, Major Harshit Sharma, said the family had consistently demanded a transparent investigation since the beginning of the case. He added that friends, relatives and supporters of Twisha remain united in their pursuit of justice for the 33-year-old.
