New Delhi: Indian actor Alia Bhatt is set to take the stage as a presenter at the 79th BAFTA Film Awards, marking another milestone for Indian representation at one of Britain’s most prestigious film events. The ceremony will be held at London’s Royal Festival Hall on February 22.
Organisers have confirmed that Alia will share presenter duties with an impressive international line-up, including Cillian Murphy, Alicia Vikander, Emily Watson and Ethan Hawke, among several other global stars. The awards, officially known as the EE BAFTA Film Awards, honour excellence in cinema from around the world and will be broadcast across the UK.
Alia’s participation continues a growing tradition of Indian stars being part of the celebrated event. In previous years, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone have also appeared as presenters, highlighting the expanding footprint of Indian talent in international cinema spaces.
Beyond Alia’s presence, India has another reason to celebrate. Manipuri-language film Boong, directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, has secured a nomination in the Best Children’s and Family Film category. The film will compete with major international titles, including Disney productions and other global releases.
Backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, Boong tells the touching story of a young boy from Manipur who embarks on a heartfelt journey to surprise his mother with a meaningful gift. The nomination marks a significant moment for regional Indian cinema on a global platform.
Alia Bhatt’s role as presenter and Boong’s nomination together underscore India’s rising influence in global filmmaking circles. As the BAFTA Awards celebrate cinematic excellence, this year’s ceremony promises to spotlight both established international icons and emerging voices from India’s diverse film industry.
