Will AI take away jobs? PM Narendra Modi says no. Calling artificial intelligence a “job multiplier,” he assures India’s youth that technology will reshape work, not erase it as the government ramps up skilling and reskilling for an AI-driven future.
PM has sought to calm anxieties among young Indians over the rapid rise of artificial intelligence
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought to calm anxieties among young Indians over the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, asserting that AI will transform employment rather than eliminate it. WHile interacting with media, he emphasised that technology changes the nature of work but does not end it.
With automation and AI tools becoming more common across industries, concerns about job losses have grown among students and early-career professionals. Responding to these fears, the Prime Minister said preparation is the most effective response to technological change. Instead of viewing AI as a threat, he urged youth to see it as a tool that can expand their capabilities.
He noted that the government is investing heavily in large-scale skilling and reskilling programmes aimed at preparing India’s workforce for an AI-driven future. The focus, he said, is on equipping young professionals with digital knowledge, practical training and emerging technology skills.
PM Modi described artificial intelligence as a “force multiplier” that can increase productivity and open new avenues of growth. According to him, sectors such as healthcare, education and law can benefit significantly from AI-powered tools, allowing professionals to serve more people efficiently.
Drawing parallels with past technological shifts, including the Industrial Revolution, he said history shows that innovation consistently creates new forms of employment even as it transforms older roles. “Work doesn’t disappear because of technology; its shape changes,” he remarked.

The Prime Minister pointed out that while some traditional roles may evolve, new opportunities are already emerging in AI development, data science, cybersecurity, automation and digital services. He highlighted India’s growing presence in the global technology ecosystem, noting that the country ranks third in Stanford’s Global AI Vibrancy Index for 2025.
Expressing confidence in India’s demographic strength, PM Modi said the country’s youth are well-positioned to lead the next phase of technological progress. With the right policy support and skill development, he added, artificial intelligence could become a powerful driver of inclusive growth and long-term employment generation in India.
