New Delhi: Rishab Shetty’s much-anticipated prequel, Kantara Chapter 1, is set to make its OTT release in less than a month after its theatrical release on October 2.
Shetty, who wrote, directed, and starred in the film, shared the screen with Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram. The OTT release promises to bring the legend of Berme and his men to audiences across the country and beyond.

Prime Video officially announced the release on Monday, tweeting: “Get ready to witness the LEGENDary adventure of BERME 🔥. #KantaraALegendChapter1OnPrime, October 31.” Alongside the announcement, the platform released a trailer showing Shetty’s character, Berme, and his followers preparing for battle, giving fans an exciting sneak peek of the story.

Kantara Chapter 1 will stream in its original Kannada, as well as dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. Notably, Hindi is missing from the list, which has sparked a flurry of questions and comments from fans.
Many wrote online asking when a Hindi version might be available, with one fan remarking, “Hindi laoge to hi Hit review aayenge” (You’ll have a hit if you release it in Hindi). Others expressed surprise at the quick OTT turnaround, saying, “2nd October theater release and 31st October OTT release? So much fast.”
Set against the backdrop of the Kadamba dynasty, Kantara Chapter 1 explores the origins of the legends of Panjuluri Daiva, Guliga, and Chavundi. Produced by Hombale Films, the movie serves as a prequel to Shetty’s 2022 blockbuster Kantara, continuing the saga of folklore, mysticism, and cultural heritage.
Shetty described the film as a story “deeply embedded in our soil, celebrating the sacred bond between man, nature, and faith.” He added, “Every ritual, emotion, and moment in the film draws from lived culture and real traditions. This prequel takes audiences back to the roots that inspired it all.”
Kantara: Chapter 1 emerges as one of 2025’s biggest blockbusters
Kantara Chapter 1 has already made history at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025. It surpassed Chhaava’s ₹807 crore record, collecting ₹813 crore worldwide in just 25 days. Shetty expressed his excitement about the film reaching a wider audience via Prime Video: “The love it received in theatres reflects how deeply our folklore resonates. I’m thrilled that Prime Video will take this story beyond borders, allowing viewers everywhere to experience the spirit, mystery, and divinity of Kantara’s world.”
With its rich storytelling, cultural depth, and gripping performances, Kantara Chapter 1 promises to enthrall OTT audiences as it becomes accessible at home for the first time.
