Mumbai: Comedian Pranit More has deactivated his Instagram account days after a viral crowdwork clip from one of his stand-up shows triggered widespread outrage online. The controversy stemmed from remarks made by an audience member, identified as Himanshu Jangra, during an interaction on stage.
The clip quickly gained traction across social media platforms, drawing criticism from users, influencers and celebrities alike. Many questioned More's response during the exchange and accused him of failing to challenge comments that were widely viewed as inappropriate and insensitive.

The backlash began after Jangra recounted a date during More’s show, claiming he had spent ₹370 on a plate of chicken biryani and expected a “return” on that investment. He went on to narrate details of the encounter, including how he insisted on spending more time with the woman despite her apparent reluctance.
The remarks were condemned by many social media users, who described them as misogynistic and problematic. Clips from the performance circulated widely, intensifying scrutiny of both Jangra and More.
As the video spread online, criticism shifted toward More, with many arguing that the comedian should have intervened or challenged the audience member's comments instead of laughing and moving on with the show.
Several content creators and public personalities joined the debate, questioning the responsibility of comedians during crowdwork sessions and whether problematic remarks should be addressed more directly during live performances.
The controversy soon became one of the most discussed topics across social media platforms, prompting calls for accountability.
Responding to the backlash, More released a public statement acknowledging that the audience member’s comments did not reflect his personal views.
“I’ve seen the criticism regarding a recent crowdwork clip. The comments made by the audience member do not reflect my views. Looking back, I should have challenged the remark instead of laughing and moving on. That was a lapse in judgment on my part,” he said. The comedian also thanked those who raised concerns respectfully and said he would learn from the incident.
Soon after the controversy escalated, users noticed that More’s primary Instagram account, which had nearly four million followers, was no longer accessible. However, his secondary account remains active.
Meanwhile, Jangra reportedly apologised for his remarks and deleted his social media profiles. Despite the apologies, the incident continues to spark discussions about accountability, audience interactions and ethical boundaries in stand-up comedy.
