Viral: Gurugram firm terminates Himanshu Jangra over ‘Rs 370 biryani’ remark on Pranit More’s show
A Gurgaon-based web developer has lost his job after controversial remarks made during a stand-up comedy show went viral, triggering outrage online and reigniting debates around misogyny and consent.
Gurugram: A Gurgaon-based branding and design company has terminated the employment of Himanshu Jangra following controversial comments he made during comedian Pranit More’s stand-up performance.
Jangra, who worked as a web developer at Starvik Design, faced massive backlash online after clips from the show surfaced on social media.
What Sparked the Outrage
During audience interaction at the comedy show, the 23-year-old narrated an incident involving a date where he spent ₹370 on chicken biryani and expected something “in return.” He further described insisting that the woman accompany him to a secluded park despite her reluctance.
The remarks quickly triggered criticism online, with many users accusing him of promoting misogynistic attitudes and ignoring the importance of consent.
In a video statement shared on Instagram, Starvik Design founder Vivek Vishwakarma confirmed that the company had decided to part ways with Jangra following an internal review.
Vishwakarma stated that the comments made in the viral clips were offensive and did not reflect the company’s values. He added that while colleagues described Jangra as professional and respectful at the workplace, the incident outside office had begun affecting the company environment.
According to the company, the decision was taken keeping in mind employees, clients, and workplace culture.
Warning Against Online Harassment
While confirming the termination, the company founder also appealed against excessive trolling and online abuse directed at the former employee.
He noted that the controversy would likely have long-term consequences on the young man’s future and stressed that social media harassment should not be taken lightly.
