Mumbai: Bollywood star Varun Dhawan is set to channel his most intense avatar yet in Border 2, the much-awaited war drama and spiritual sequel to the 1997 classic Border. The makers unveiled the actor’s powerful first look on Wednesday, igniting excitement among fans and cinephiles.

Varun Dhawan as a Fearless Soldier

In the first-look poster shared by T-Series Films, Varun Dhawan appears in the midst of a fierce battlefield clad in an Indian Army uniform, smeared with dust and grit, with ammunition strapped across his chest. His determined gaze and rugged stance capture the chaos and courage of war.

The caption accompanying the post read: “Border uska farz hai aur Bharat uska pyaar!” setting the tone for a patriotic spectacle. Varun also shared the poster on his Instagram, introducing his character as “Desh ka sipahi PVC Hoshiyar Singh Dahiya,” confirming that he plays a decorated war hero. The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on January 23, 2026.

The project marks a collaboration between two generations of filmmakers with JP Dutta, the visionary behind the original Border, joining hands with Anurag Singh to recreate the patriotic fervour that once captivated audiences in 1997.

A Tribute to the Heroes of Kargil

Unlike the first Border, which was based on the 1971 Battle of Longewala, Border 2 is reportedly set against the backdrop of the 1999 Kargil War. The conflict, fought between India and Pakistan along the Line of Control, showcased extraordinary bravery from Indian soldiers in reclaiming infiltrated territories in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kargil district.

Through Border 2, the makers aim to honour the indomitable courage and sacrifice of those who fought in one of India’s most defining military victories.

Varun’s Upcoming Romantic Comedy with David Dhawan

Apart from Border 2, Varun Dhawan will also be seen in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, a lighthearted romantic film directed by his father, David Dhawan. Co-starring Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur, the film releases on June 5, 2026, and draws its title inspiration from the hit track in Biwi No.1.

With two contrasting roles lined up a war hero and a hopeless romantic Varun Dhawan seems ready to dominate 2026 in style.
