If this problem persists, it can damage your food pipe and affect your life. In this article, we will know what is the problem of acid reflux and what can be the ways to avoid it.
How to find out which food is causing you problems
There are many food items that are considered to be the cause of acid reflux. But every food has a different effect on everyone. Therefore, keep track of your eating habits and note them down to identify your triggers.
Fried things cause the most trouble
Fried things contain the highest amount of fat, which takes more time to digest. Fried food causes excessive acid formation in the stomach, which causes acid reflux. This causes a burning sensation in the chest and throat.
Eat these things to avoid acid reflux
Protein: Instead of fried food, eat things that have low fat content like grilled chicken and baked fish or pulses. These have high protein and low fat content.
Whole grains: Instead of eating refined foods with flour and high sugar, take fiber-rich whole grains, such as oats, brown rice, quinoa, wheat. Consuming fiber-rich things helps in digestion and also reduces the risk of acid reflux. It also absorbs excess stomach acid.
Pulses and legumes: Include protein-rich things like beans, pulses and chickpeas in your diet. They have less fat and also provide relief in the problem of reflux. They contain a lot of iron and protein which makes you feel full and also reduces reflux.
Cooked vegetables: Doing this makes it easier to digest vegetables and reduces the problem of acidity, especially compared to raw vegetables. Cooking vegetables also softens the fiber present in them. This does not cause stomach pain or bloating.
Doing this can also be beneficial
Eat small quantities more often- Eating small quantities five to six times a day can provide relief from stomach problems. Eating too much at one time can cause heartburn.
Avoid sleeping or lying down immediately after eating- If you have eaten a full meal and go to lie down immediately after that, then there will be trouble in digesting the food properly.
Soda drinks increase acid- This produces more acid in the stomach. Instead, keep drinking water in small quantities.
Stay active- Sitting at one place can also cause acid reflux. Therefore, try to do at least 150 minutes of light exercise a week.
