New Delhi: If you think there's only one type of roti, you're wrong. There are many types of roti, and each has a different effect on your health. If you think you eat roti just for taste or to fill your stomach, you'll be surprised to know that each type of roti affects your body, weight, blood sugar, and digestion differently.

Ayurveda and Unani health expert Dr. Salim Zaidi, Chief Medical Director of Rajshahi Healthcare, recently explained how each type of roti can benefit or harm your body. Let's find out.

Wheat Roti
According to Dr. Zaidi, eating only wheat roti daily can pose a risk to your health, especially for those who already suffer from obesity or diabetes.

Wheat has a higher glycemic index than other grains, so eating it in large quantities daily can lead to weight gain and sudden spikes in blood sugar.

Millet Roti
Millet roti is considered extremely beneficial for health. Millet is warm in nature, so eating its roti helps maintain body heat and strengthens the body from within during the cold season. This is why millet consumption increases especially during winter.

Furthermore, millet is rich in iron, fiber, and several essential minerals. This helps in blood formation and is also beneficial for conditions like anemia. Best of all, millet roti is also very helpful in controlling blood sugar. Its low glycemic index ensures a gradual release of sugar, preventing sudden spikes in blood sugar.

Jowar Roti
Jowar roti is considered extremely beneficial for health, especially for those suffering from stomach problems or weight gain. Jowar is a light and easily digestible grain, so eating it doesn't put much strain on the stomach. This is why jowar roti helps reduce acidity and stomach irritation. For those who frequently experience sour belching, heartburn, or heaviness, jowar roti is a good option.

Jowar is also high in fiber. Fiber improves digestion and keeps the body feeling full for longer. This reduces hunger, which naturally helps manage weight. Jowar is gluten-free, making this roti safe and beneficial even for those with gluten sensitivity.

Ragi Roti
Ragi roti is rich in nutrition and is considered a health superfood. Ragi is an excellent source of calcium, which helps strengthen bones. Ragi is especially beneficial for growing children, women, and the elderly as it helps maintain strong bones and reduces the risk of bone loss.
