New Delhi: The Ministry of Textiles has set up a dedicated monitoring cell to coordinate with industry stakeholders amid evolving tensions in West Asia, aiming to safeguard exports and ensure supply chain stability.

Monitoring Cell to Coordinate with Industry

At an inter-ministerial briefing, Bipin Menon said the ministry is in close touch with Export Promotion Councils (EPCs), industry bodies, and government agencies to track developments and respond swiftly.

Regular consultations are being held to address challenges such as shipping disruptions, logistics planning, and cost optimisation.

Alternative Trade Routes, Shipping Advisories in Focus

Menon said advisories from Directorate General of Shipping are being circulated among stakeholders, while alternative trade routes, including via Jeddah, are being explored to avoid potential bottlenecks.

Fuel Supply, Customs Relief Measures Under Review

The ministry is also coordinating with the Petroleum Ministry and GAIL to ensure around 80% continuity in supply, with contingency plans for procurement from the spot market if required.

Additionally, discussions are underway with the Department of Revenue to rationalise customs duties, including reductions on key textile inputs and further relief on essential raw materials.

Focus on Export Stability and Resilience

Menon подчеркнул that the government’s priority remains maintaining export stability, strengthening supply chain resilience, and providing support to the textile sector during the ongoing situation.

Shipping Ministry Assures Safety of Indian Vessels

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said the maritime situation in the Persian Gulf is being closely monitored.

Mukesh Mangal assured that all Indian seafarers in the region are safe, and no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels have been reported in the past 24 hours.

The government’s coordinated response comes as it seeks to cushion the impact of geopolitical tensions on trade and logistics.
