Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates on Sunday said its air defence systems successfully intercepted 25 drones and four ballistic missiles during the latest attack attributed to Iran, amid escalating tensions in the region.
According to officials, the aerial threats were detected and neutralised before reaching their intended targets, preventing potential damage to critical infrastructure and civilian areas. Authorities confirmed that emergency response systems were immediately activated, and the situation was brought under control without major casualties.
The incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, with repeated drone and missile attacks raising concerns over regional security and stability.
The UAE has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding its airspace and protecting residents, while closely coordinating with regional and international partners to counter emerging threats.
Since the start of the Iranian attacks, UAE air defences have intercepted 345 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles and 1,773 UAVs.
These attacks have resulted in the loss of life of two members of the armed forces while performing their national duty, as well as the deaths of six citizens of Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Palestine.
A total of 160 people were also injured, with injuries ranging from minor to moderate and severe. The injured included nationals of the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Comoros, Türkiye, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Jordan, Palestine, Ghana, Indonesia, Sweden and Tunisia.
