Ukraine’s Embassy in India has raised concerns over the detention of six Ukrainian nationals, calling the case politically motivated and rejecting any allegations of involvement in terrorism.

New Delhi: The Embassy of Ukraine in India has expressed concern over the detention of six Ukrainian citizens in India, suggesting the case may have a politically motivated dimension.
In an official statement issued in New Delhi, the embassy said publicly available information, including media reports, indicated that the proceedings may have been initiated based on inputs from Russia. It added that certain aspects of the case point to a possible “orchestrated” nature, though details remain limited at this stage.

Ukraine firmly denied any suggestion of state involvement in terrorist activities. It reiterated that the country itself has been facing the consequences of terrorism and maintains a consistent stance against it in all forms.

The statement emphasised that allegations related to terrorism must be assessed strictly on verified facts, transparent procedures, and international legal standards.
The embassy urged authorities to ensure objectivity, transparency, and impartiality in the investigation. It also stressed the importance of safeguarding the rights of the detained Ukrainian nationals in accordance with international law.
Ukraine expressed readiness to cooperate with Indian authorities through established legal frameworks, including bilateral agreements on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
Referring to ties with India, Ukraine highlighted the shared commitment of both nations to combat terrorism. It recalled the joint position expressed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ukraine in 2024, where both sides condemned terrorism in all forms and called for global cooperation.

The embassy cautioned against attempts to use the case to undermine Ukraine’s image or create distrust in bilateral relations. It maintained that Ukraine has no interest in actions that could threaten India’s security and instead seeks to strengthen cooperation and trust.
Ukraine also voiced confidence that Indian authorities would ensure due process and uphold legal standards in handling the matter.
