Mathura: A man allegedly hacked his younger brother to death late Tuesday night over an “inappropriate gaze” at his wife, police said. The accused, Meghshyam Singh, reportedly attacked his 35-year-old brother Niranjan at Ahamal village under the Magorra police station limits.

Attack Details

According to officials, the incident occurred around 10 pm after Meghshyam returned home from work. His wife, Durgesh, allegedly told him that Niranjan had been casting an inappropriate gaze at her. Enraged, Meghshyam reportedly picked up a sharp-edged weapon and attacked his brother repeatedly, causing severe injuries to his neck, ears, and hands. Niranjan died on the spot, DSP Anil Kumar Singh said.

Assault on Mother

Police said Meghshyam also allegedly assaulted their mother, Launga Devi, when she tried to intervene. After the attack, Meghshyam locked his room and fled the village with his wife.

Family Background and Disputes

Officials said the brothers had married two sisters from Bharatpur district in Rajasthan about eight years ago. Relations between the families had been strained, with Niranjan’s wife living separately at her parental home for the past year. Niranjan was reportedly addicted to alcohol, which had contributed to frequent disputes within the family.

Police Action

Authorities reached the scene after receiving an alert, conducted inquest proceedings, and sent Niranjan’s body for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered against Meghshyam and his wife, and police are working to apprehend them.
