Pakistan Admits Iranian Military Aircraft Presence
New Delhi: Islamabad on Tuesday confirmed that Iranian military aircraft had been present in Pakistan, but rejected reports published by US media outlets that suggested the aircraft were part of any strategic or military arrangement.
In an official statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) termed such reports “misleading” and said they were aimed at creating confusion around ongoing regional diplomatic efforts.
The FO clarified that the aircraft arrived during a ceasefire period following initial rounds of US-Iran peace-related discussions and had no connection to any military contingency plan or operational agreement.
According to the Foreign Office, the aircraft from both Iran and the United States had landed in Pakistan during the Islamabad Talks held on April 11 and 12. These flights, it said, were used strictly for transporting diplomatic staff, security personnel, and administrative teams involved in the negotiation process.
The statement further explained that the presence of these aircraft was part of standard logistical arrangements made to support diplomatic engagement between the involved parties during the ceasefire phase.
Officials added that some aircraft and personnel remained in Pakistan due to the anticipation of further negotiation rounds, which were later delayed.
Although formal negotiations have not resumed, Pakistan said that high-level diplomatic exchanges have continued between relevant parties. The Foreign Office noted that visits by Iranian Foreign Minister to Islamabad were also facilitated under the same administrative and logistical arrangements.
The government emphasized that linking these movements to any military purpose was “speculative and detached from factual context,” and warned against narratives that could undermine regional peace efforts.
Pakistan reiterated its commitment to supporting diplomatic dialogue aimed at stabilizing tensions between Iran and the United States.
The clarification comes amid heightened geopolitical sensitivities in West Asia, where diplomatic efforts continue alongside periodic tensions. Pakistan has positioned itself as a facilitator for dialogue, stressing that its territory is being used strictly for peaceful diplomatic coordination.
Officials say maintaining transparency around such movements is essential to avoid misinformation and ensure trust in ongoing peace efforts.
