New Delhi: Amidst efforts to end the Ukraine war, which has been ongoing for nearly four years, talks between Russia and the US on a US peace proposal appear to be progressing. Russia has stated that discussions on the peace plan put forward by the US regarding Ukraine are proceeding constructively. This statement comes at a time when the war continues to fuel political and economic uncertainty in Europe and around the world.

A special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that talks on the US-proposed peace plan are underway in Florida and will continue. These talks are part of a diplomatic initiative by the Trump administration aimed at ending the Ukraine war. Meetings were also held earlier this week in Berlin with Ukrainian and European officials.

Key US-Russia Meeting in Florida
Russian envoy Kirill said that peace talks began earlier and continued on Saturday. He added that the discussions would continue on Sunday. Kirill met with US President Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. Russia says that the current round of discussions is serious and an attempt is being made to find a solution.

Ukraine's Concerns and the US Role
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that much will depend on the US's stance after the talks with Russia. He made this statement at a time when Ukraine's chief negotiator announced the completion of separate meetings with American and European partners in the US. Ukraine wants any peace agreement to not compromise its security and sovereignty.

Difficulties Due to Russia's Hardline Stance
However, despite the peace efforts, the talks are not easy. The Trump administration's initiative is facing conflicting demands from Moscow and Kyiv. Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated in recent days that he is not prepared to back down from his maximum demands on Ukraine.

Putin has made it clear that if Ukraine does not accept Russia's terms, Russia will continue to pursue its military objectives. Meanwhile, despite heavy losses on the battlefield, the Russian army is slowly advancing.

Europe's preparations and economic aid
Amidst the war, the European Union has also taken a major decision. EU leaders have agreed to provide 90 billion euros in aid over the next two years to meet Ukraine's military and economic needs. However, due to disagreements with Belgium, an agreement could not be reached on using frozen Russian assets to raise the funds.

Therefore, this amount will be raised by borrowing from the capital markets. This step shows that the impact of the war in Ukraine is not limited to the battlefield but is also affecting global politics and the economy.
