Washington: US President Donald Trump on Monday said that both Iran and Israel are seeking an "immediate ceasefire" following renewed hostilities between the two nations, expressing optimism that ongoing negotiations could lead to a broader peace agreement.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said final negotiations aimed at securing a comprehensive peace deal were progressing, though he cautioned that "ignorance or stupidity" could still obstruct efforts to reach a lasting settlement.

"Both sides, Israel and Iran, are looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE! Final negotiations on 'Peace' are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way," Trump wrote.

US Blockade on Iran to Continue Until Final Agreement

Trump indicated that Washington would maintain its pressure campaign against Iran until a comprehensive agreement is reached.

"The Blockade will remain in place, and in full force and effect, until a 'Final Deal' is reached. Things should move quickly," he added.

Fresh Hostilities Threaten Fragile Truce

The conflict entered its 100th day on Monday as Israel and Iran exchanged direct strikes, raising concerns over the collapse of an already fragile truce and the possibility of a wider regional war.

The latest escalation reportedly included:

  • An Israeli strike on an Iranian petrochemical facility.
  • Iranian attacks targeting two Israeli military bases, according to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
  • Intensified cross-border attacks and counterattacks between the two sides.

The renewed violence came despite reports that Trump had urged Israel to avoid retaliatory action following Iranian missile launches.

Conflict Escalation Raises Concerns Over Peace Efforts

The latest tensions followed Israeli airstrikes on southern suburbs of Beirut on Sunday, which were followed by retaliatory action from Iran. The exchange reignited fears that diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, which began on February 28, could be undermined.

Analysts warn that continued military action may complicate ongoing negotiations and delay prospects for a permanent ceasefire.

India Calls for Immediate De-escalation

Reacting to the latest developments, the Ministry of External Affairs reiterated India's call for immediate de-escalation and emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace and stability in the region.

The ministry noted that the prolonged conflict has caused significant humanitarian suffering and has had adverse effects on the global economy.
