Los Angeles' busiest port was rocked on Friday night when a container ship suddenly caught fire. The 23 crew members on board were reported safe, but the fire spread rapidly and later caused an explosion in the ship's central section. Officials are closely monitoring the operation and are considering the incident serious.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fire started in the electrical section below deck and gradually spread upwards. The ship, named "One Henry Hudson," is a 1,102-foot-long container ship. Some of the containers on board contained hazardous materials, making the task of extinguishing the fire even more challenging.

The fire spread, increasing the danger
By 7 p.m., the fire had spread to several levels of the ship. A massive explosion suddenly occurred mid-deck, further complicating the operation. Officials have not yet determined what caused the fire, but initial investigations link it to a technical malfunction.

More than 100 firefighters deployed
Due to the severity of the incident, more than 100 firefighters were deployed to the scene. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass stated that the Hazardous Materials Team is continuously monitoring the air quality. The Port of Los Angeles is the busiest port in North America, so high-level safety measures have been implemented.

Singapore Shipping Company's Ship
This ship, owned by the "One Ocean Express" company, made stops in Kobe, Nagoya, and Tokyo in Japan before arriving in LA. The company has been requested for comment, but no official response has yet been received.

Teams are investigating the cause of the fire and explosion
Officials have clarified that a definitive comment on the cause of the fire cannot be made without a detailed investigation. Investigation teams are focusing specifically on the ship's electrical system and containers containing hazardous materials.
