SIT formed as police investigate conversion allegations (Img: Internet)
Nashik: Police in Nashik have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate serious allegations involving employees at a BPO unit of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
The SIT, led by ACP (Crime) Sandeep Mitke, will examine complaints filed by multiple women employees alleging harassment, coercion, and workplace misconduct.
The case came to light following a covert operation launched by the Nashik Police in February. As part of the investigation, women constables posed as housekeeping staff, while male officers took on roles such as security guards and technical workers.
This strategy allowed officials to gather first-hand accounts and build trust with complainants, leading to the emergence of detailed allegations against certain employees.
Authorities have registered a total of nine FIRs in connection with the case. The charges include sexual harassment, rape, and attempts at forced religious conversion.
So far, seven individuals have been arrested. The role of an HR manager is also under scrutiny, with allegations that complaints raised by employees were ignored and misconduct was not addressed adequately.
Investigators have pointed to WhatsApp conversations suggesting that some women employees were allegedly pressured to follow certain religious practices during Ramzan. Complaints also include inappropriate behaviour by team leaders and attempts to influence religious choices.
Police are also probing the involvement of a Malaysia-based individual, identified as Irman, who was reportedly introduced to some employees via video calls. Authorities suspect possible financial incentives and emotional manipulation, and are examining bank transactions to determine any external funding links.

Reacting to the developments, TCS stated that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and coercion. Employees under investigation have been suspended pending inquiry.
N. Chandrasekaran described the allegations as “gravely concerning” and assured that a comprehensive internal review is being conducted.
The case has attracted public and political attention, with authorities emphasising that the investigation is still underway and no final conclusions have been reached.
