New Delhi: Australia has deported 15 Indian citizens, sending them back to New Delhi. Of these individuals, 9 hailed from Punjab. All were brought to India via a special chartered flight, which landed at Delhi Airport.

According to Australian authorities, these individuals were expelled from the country for several reasons:

  • Involvement in criminal activities
  • Violation of visa regulations
  • Failure to cooperate with authorities

Many of them faced serious allegations such as drunk driving, theft, fraud, drug-related offenses, stalking, and acts of violence. A startling revelation was that out of the 15 individuals, only two possessed valid passports. The remaining were sent to India using "Emergency Certificates," which are valid solely for one-way travel.

Officials explained that the behavior of some of the detainees was deemed "non-compliant and disruptive." In other words, they were refusing to follow rules and were offering resistance. For this reason, transporting them on a standard commercial flight was not considered safe; hence, a special aircraft was utilized.

Where were they detained?

These individuals were held in various detention centers across Australia, including:

  • Yongah Hill (Western Australia)
  • Melbourne Detention Centre
  • Villawood Detention Centre

What charges were they facing?

The deported individuals faced a range of serious allegations:

  • Possession and use of narcotics
  • Theft and fraud
  • Domestic violence and assault
  • Stalking and making threats
  • Providing false information to the police
  • One woman was deported solely for violating immigration regulations and for initial non-cooperation.

Upon their arrival in India, these individuals may be provided with certain forms of assistance, such as:

  • Cash assistance
  • Arrangements for domestic travel
  • Temporary accommodation facilities

However, these cases may subsequently be subject to further investigation and legal proceedings.
