Chennai: India's top riders and teams congregate this weekend at the iconic Madras International Circuit, at Irungattukottai, about 40 km from here, for an adrenaline-filled weekend of racing setting the stage for the first round of the MRF MMSC-FMSCI Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship 2025.

The three-day event, commencing on Friday, will see 19 races with over 154 entries across all categories in the fray.

One of the features of the new season is the introduction of a new National Championship category, the Pro-Stock 165-200cc which will join the other classes--the two Novice categories--Stock 165cc and Stock 301-400cc which has attracted 32 entries – besides Girls (Stock 165cc) and the premier class, the Pro-Stock 301-400cc.

In an innovative move, Petronas TVS Racing will supply 12 factory-supported GP 200R based on Apache RTR 200 4V bikes that are designed for racing with modifications focusing on enhancing engine performance, suspension, and other key components.

This marks the first time in the history of Indian motorsports that a brand has been entrusted to design, develop, and provide race-tuned motorcycles specifically for the National Championship, reaffirming TVS Motor’s leadership and commitment to racing excellence.

With 20 years of TVS Apache’s racing heritage behind it, this milestone marks a powerful step forward in Indian motorsports.

This category will take up the slot of the popular Pro-Stock 165cc which will join the championship in Round-2 in the form of Super Stock 165cc.

Also making its debut is the Honda CB 300F that will compete in the Idemitsu Honda India Talent

Cup which is a one-make championship. The CB 300F category replaces the NSF 250R which was the quickest bike on the track. Honda, after a selection process, shortlisted 10 riders headlined by former National woman’s champion Ann Jennifer for the CB 300F grid.

Petronas TVS Racing will be having their own One-Make Championship comprising four categories. On view will be the powerful Apache RR 310 (Open) besides the Apache RTR 200 which will be run in the Rookie, Girls and Media classes.

In the National Championship, much of the focus will be on a pair of Petronas TVS Racing riders, National champion Sarthak Chavan (Pune) and his arch-rival Chiranth Vishwanath (Bengaluru),
in the Pro-Stock 301-400cc class.

The two teenagers showcased their undoubted talent and fierce competitiveness that not only scripted some thrilling spectacle, but also, in the process, helmed a change of guard as the duo represented a new generation of fearless riders.

Incidentally, Sarthak won nine of the 10 races last season while Chiranth topped the other. The duo will resume their rivalry this weekend after having gained rich experience from participating and scoring podium finishes in the Asia Road Racing Championship.

MMSC President Ajit Thomas said: “At the outset, a very warm welcome to the competitors, title sponsors MRF Tyres, and the manufacturers, TVS and Honda. All of them have contributed immensely to the continuing growth of the championship that today is among the most fiercely competitive sporting events in the country.

We at the MMSC have not spared any effort to provide a wholesome platform to encourage and nurture talent. We are confident that the 2025 season will be as exciting, if not more, than the previous."
