India moves closer to hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games as Ahmedabad is recommended as the proposed host city. The final decision will be made on November 26 in Glasgow. If approved, it will mark India’s second time hosting the event.
Ahmedabad becomes first choice to host
New Delhi: India may once again have the opportunity to host a major international sporting event. The Commonwealth Games Executive Board has recommended Ahmedabad as the proposed host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
Although the final decision is still pending, this is considered a major achievement for India.
The Commonwealth Games Board recommended Ahmedabad as the host city for the 2030 Games at its meeting on Wednesday. This decision was made considering the city's infrastructure, sports facilities, and India's previous successful hosting (2010, New Delhi).
World-class facilities like the recently developed Motera Stadium (Narendra Modi Stadium) in Ahmedabad are also a major reason for this recommendation.

This time, India faced a tough challenge from Nigeria. However, the Board has also stated that they do not want to disappoint Nigeria and want to give it the opportunity to host a sporting event in the future. This includes the proposal to host the 2034 Commonwealth Games.
Ahmedabad has currently only been selected as a proposed host city. The final decision will be made at the Commonwealth Games General Assembly in Glasgow on November 26, 2025.
All member countries will vote on the proposal, and only then will it be decided whether India will actually host the Games.
