New Delhi: Artificial intelligence (AI) is considered the biggest tool for speeding up work, but new research suggests that the benefits are not as straightforward as they seem. While AI saves time, a significant portion of that time is spent correcting errors.

Workday's new global report and research data reveal this dual reality of AI. According to the report, 85% of employees believe that AI tools save them 1 to 7 hours per week. However, nearly 40% of this saved time is spent on rework.

Where does employees' time go?
Employees have to correct errors in AI output, rewrite content, and verify the results. The report calls this a "false sense of productivity."

77% of employees who use AI daily scrutinize AI-generated work as closely as they would human work, and some even more carefully. This clearly shows that while AI has increased speed, it hasn't increased trust.

Companies are using outdated structures
According to the report, 89% of companies have updated less than half of their job roles to be compatible with AI. This means employees are still using 2025 AI tools within 2015 job structures.

Companies are reinvesting 39% of the time saved by AI back into technology. This indicates that while AI is being adopted, the working methods and responsibilities remain outdated.

An analysis of 41.3 million research papers from universities in the US and China reveals another important picture. Scientists using AI are publishing three times more papers and receiving five times more citations.

Work has accelerated
These scientists also become project leaders an average of one year and four months earlier. However, the increasing use of AI has led to a 4.63% decrease in the diversity of research topics.

This means that while work has become faster, the exploration of new and different subjects has weakened.
