New Delhi: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav launched a strong attack on the ongoing Special Electoral Roll Revision (SIR) campaign in Uttar Pradesh.
He alleged that it is not a genuine SIR but rather a covert operation to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC). He specifically questioned the need for detention centers. Akhilesh Yadav asked why detention centers are necessary for those whose names are not included in the SIR.

He believes this indicates that the tasks that could not be openly carried out under the NRC are now being implemented under the guise of the SIR.
Akhilesh Yadav criticized the fact that documents like Aadhaar cards are not being accepted in the SIR process. He pointed out that Aadhaar cards contain secure and documented fingerprints, iris scans, and all other details, yet they are not being accepted.

He argued that such actions clearly demonstrate that the SIR is essentially functioning as an NRC.

He argued that developed countries like Germany, Japan, and the United States still use ballot papers in their democratic processes. He questioned why India is adopting EVMs when technologically advanced countries are not.
